Once a high school prom queen, now a ghostwriter of young adult novels, Mavis Gary returns home in hopes of reliving her glory days. When she finds that her old sweetheart is now happily married with a new baby, she tries to win him back just to prove that she can. Despite the warnings of her former geeky classmate Matt, who she befriends along the way, Mavis spirals downward into a pit of narcissism and regret as she simply refuses to grow up. Although somewhat harsher than their last collaboration, Juno, director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody again deliver with a movie that is "smart, honest, and sickeningly funny."
